New USAWP Rules for 2020
Beginning 1 January, 2020, some new rules will be implemented for all USAWP games. An explanation of the new rules can be found here. During the transition to these new rules the referees will do their best to apply them accurately and consistently. Everyone will be learning the new rules together. Please be patient throughout this process.
The Cen Cal Zone will be offering schools to instruct referees and anyone else who wants to learn about the rule changes. Interested coaches and parents are are encouraged to attend as well. Referees are required to attend a school every two years to maintain their USAWP referee membership. The first two schools will be 4 January at Arroyo Grande School and 5 January at Clovis High School. Additional schools will likely be scheduled in the northern part of the Cen Cal Zone during the coming months.
A message to all referees -- Please start reading the rules now! As of this time, the 20 second shot clock rule will not go into effect and will not be used at JO's later this summer. All the other rules will go into effect immediately on 1 January, 2020. Do your best to apply them and be consistent. Remain calm and professional and keep others clam as we go through this process and everyone adjusts. Also, make sure you take the test and check all of your membership requirements (pay your fee, safe sport and, background check) before the end of the year. YOU WILL NOT BE ASSIGNED UNLESS YOU ARE CURRENT! Lastly, stay on top of roster checks and reporting all incidents as we go through the 2020 USAWP season.
